Guiding Principals for Early Childhood
The EC Cabinet has recently updated the GUIDING PRINCIPLES for EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION to reflect the evolving 'best practices' identified through current research. This document is an excellent resource for staff development and includes the PSD Code of Ethics that clearly states the expectations we consider essential in Lutheran Early Childhood centers.
Social Media Policy The PSD EC Cabinet has approved a NEW Social Media Policy for our EC centers. This expanded policy sets forth ‘best practices’ in the use of social media in the early childhood setting to protect children and parents’ rights as well as the integrity of the center itself. Portions of the statement reflect recent changes in California Licensing regulations and interpretations regarding teacher’s use of cellphones in the classroom as a ‘lack of appropriate supervision’. The Cabinet strongly encourages all our EC centers to review and include this policy statement in your staff handbooks. The link is a writable PDF. Once you download the document, you will be able to add your school information before you print or re-save the document.
Volunteers and the Dept. of Labor Please take a look at this helpful handout to advise how to allow your staff to volunteer for events at your congregation without breaching Labor Laws.
In His Hands - In His Hands is a manual intended for leaders and board members of early childhood programs that are freestanding or associated with a Lutheran elementary school. This valuable resource provides direction as new programs are developed as well as support for existing centers in the operation and management of excellent early childhood programs.

Last spring, we partnered with Professor Carolyn Shiery from Concordia University Irvine to come up with effective marketing materials for our early childhood centers. She and her team of students have prepared for us a beautiful logo; PSD early childhood brand “Lutheran Preschools: Growing Minds and Kind Hearts”; marketing materials including a video, brochure, and postcards; and a sample of a future survey that each center can customize for their school at no cost. Feel free to download and use them as resources for your center. We pray that these resources will be a blessing for your ministry for years to come!
